story continuation

I know it's been a while since my last story update, but it's just been long day after long day, but without further adu:

There was not a person standing there, and there was not anything in the nearby street other than parked cars from neighbors and other motorists, but when I looked down on the landing I noticed a pool of blood.  I am not sure if it was because of the rain but the stain on the floor looked fresh as if whatever or whoever had been standing there for a while just dripping blood.  I tried to follow the blood trail down the steps but it did not seem to go anywhere but there on my front porch which was kind of odd because judging by the amount of blood that was there and the time the individual would have been standing there knocking, then there should have been a blood trail leading away when the individual walked away.  I did not know what to think of the current situation but I was just there frozen in amazement.  “What could have bled this much and so rapidly, yet move as fast as he did to get away from sight as soon as I opened the door”, I thought to myself, but my mind was drawing a blank and I couldn’t explain it.
I retreated backwards into my house and closed the door and applied both locks, I was still astonished yet confused on what I just saw and I knew it would remain in the back of my mind for a while.  I tried to shake the thought out of my head and focus on the initial task I came downstairs to do, get my flashlight from where ever I hid it.  I had three different places I could search for the flashlight and I did not have the slightest clue as to where I may have put it when I packed.  I started to think of how I was going to do this and the only logical way of doing it was to start here on the first floor, then work my way to the garage then into the basement.  I would hopefully find it in the first floor due to the fact that it would be really hard to see in the garage without any sort of light, and I know the basement would be even worse considering it is already pitch black down there even during the day.  I looked down at my watch and noticed it had only been like an hour since I was first awakened and I knew that it would be at least a couple of more hours till day light but my luck seemed it was taking a turn for the better.
Being in the dark for so long without any type of light was helping my eyes regulate, I am not sure how long they had been adjusted for but it was a lot easier to see in the house than it was when I first rolled out of bed.  I know some of it had to do with me not being as tired as I was, and I am sure that was the majority part, but either way it was a nice change.  I started to rummage through the first box and I noticed the items I had placed in there would have nothing to do with needed a flashlight, a couple of books, magazines, notepads, picture frames, all those items had come from various places in my living room and I knew for a fact I did not have the flashlight there in the living room in my last house so it was safe to say that it would not be in that box.  I picked it up and set it aside to start a new pile of boxes that I had already been through so I could help eliminate going through boxes twice over and wasting my time.  I had gone through about three different boxes already and still nothing that hinted me to where I might find the flashlight.  I thought that maybe if I went to the garage then I there might be a box that would contain some sort of clues that would lead me to where the flashlight might be.  I kept rummaging through the boxes in the first floor and contemplating whether I should move to the garage, or search every box I had here on the ground floor then move my hunt to a different location but that idea was doing nothing for me but swirling around in my mind and nothing tipped me off to do anything for certain.
